Abstract
Tympanostomy tube insertion with myringotomy are widely used in otolaryngology for the treatment of middle ear disease including otitis media with effusion, recurrent acute otitis media, and cholesterol granuloma. They are manufactured with various materials in various size and shapes to drain middle ear effusion and restore air containing space. The problems associated with tympanostomy tubes are early extrusion, obstruction, erosin, et cetra. To solve this problems, we prepared the new type of middle ear ventilation tubes using silicon rubber/organoclay nanocomposite. It was fabricated by mixing the silicon rubber monomer with organoclay. The nanocomposite with well-exfoliated structure was obtained. As the content of organoclay increases, the tensile strength and the strain at break decrease. The decrease is considered by the insufficient crosslinking between silicon polymer chains on account of silicate layers, and the poor adhesion between silicon polymer and silicate. By adding the reactive compatibilizer when preparing the nanocomposite, it can be fabricated with good mechanical properties, and it couldbe used for middle ear ventilation tube.
